Poet, cultural diplomat, antiquity shop owner. He was born in 1946 in Cieszyn, went on to study Polish at Jagiellonian University and finally graduated in theatre directing at Warsaw's PWST Drama Academy. His poetry debut came out in 1972: the collection of verses, Samopalenie. Between 1968-75, he was a member of the literary group “Teraz” (“Now”), along with Julian Kornhauser and Adam Zagajewski. In 1970-72, he organized get-togethers of poets in Cieszyn that later went on to form the famed “Nowa Fala” (New Wave) movement in Polish poetry. He has published a dozen collection of verses, e.g. Oda do ognia (1982), Niż (1990), Wiek brązu (2000), Epitafium dla Lucy (2012), Skok w dal (2016, Warsaw Literary Award) and others. Recently, his poetry books Stance (2017) and Adres w ciemnościach (2017) came out. Between 2000-2006, he was the director of the Polish Institute in Bratislava and held the position of the General Consul of the Polish Republic in Ostrava, Czech Rep. He currently lives in Puncow, a village near Cieszyn.
